Warnings

•This appliance is designed for home air conditioning and must not be used for other purposes.

•It is dangerous to modify or alter the characteristics of the appliance in any way.

•The appliance must be installed in conformity with legislation in force in the country concerned.

•Always transport the appliance upright or resting on one side.

Before transporting the appliance, completely empty the internal circuit of water by turning the

function selector to the PUMP position until you hear the gurgling of the pump.

•Use the appliance as described in this instruction manual only. As with all electrical equipment, whil-

st the instructions aim to cover as many eventualities as possible, caution and common sense

should be applied when operating and installing this appliance.

•At the end of its working life, take the appliance to a special collection centre.

•The materials used for packaging can be recycled. You are therefore recommended to dispose of

them in special differentiated waste collection containers.

•When putting the appliance away, do not cover with plastic bags.

•R407 is a refrigerant gas conforming to EC environmental regulations. Avoid perforating the refrige-

rant circuit of the appliance.

•Keep the appliance at least 50 cm away from flammable substances (alcohol etc) or pressurised

containers (e.g. aerosol cans).

•If the appliance is used in rooms without adequate ventilation, take the necessary precautions to

avoid possible leaks of refrigerant gas stagnating in the atmosphere, creating a fire risk.

•This appliance must be used and kept in rooms with a volume of more than 21 m2.

•If an appliance containing flammable refrigerant is used in an unventilated room, make sure the

room is suitable and that there is no danger of gas leaks reaching a concentration which could

cause fire or explosion in the presence of other heat sources (electrical heating appliances, heaters

or similar).

During the summer, you feel comfortable at a tem-

perature of between 24 and 27° C with a relative

humidity of about 50%.

An air conditioning unit removes excess moistu-

re and heat from the room where it is loca-

ted.

Compared with installed models, porta-

ble air conditioning units have the

advantage that they can be moved

from one room to another in the home

or transported from one building to

another.

Hot air from the room is passed throu-

gh a coil cooled by refrigerant gas.

Excess heat and moisture are remo-

ved before the air is re-emitted into

the room.

In single unit models (Pinguino), a

small part of this air is used to cool the

refrigerant gas and then once hot

and moist, is discharged outside.

In models with case (SuperPinguino),

the circuit is cooled using air from outsi-

de.

All Pinguino and SuperPinguino models

can also be used in fan-only mode.

AIR-CONDITIONING WITHOUT INSTALLATION

Just a few simple steps and your comfort is

ensured with Pinguino:

•Fix the air discharge hose in the housing

at the back of the appliance. Insert it as

shown in figure A.

•If you have a double window, use the

suckers provided to hold the two parts of

the window together (fig. C).

•Fit the window outlet to the end of the

hose .

•Place the air conditioning unit near a win-

dow or French window.

•Make sure the air exhaust hose is unob-

structed.

•Open the window or French window sligh-

tly and position the outlet as shown in

figure B.

Preparing for use

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket, check that:

•the mains power supply corresponds to the value indicated on the rating plate on the back of

the appliance;

•the mains socket and electrical circuit are adequate for the appliance;

•the mains socket matches the plug. If this is not the case, have the plug replaced;

•the mains socket is adequately earthed. Failure to follow these important safety instructions

absolves the manufacturer of all liability.

The power cable must be replaced by a qualified professional only.

The instructions below will enable you to prepare your air conditioning unit for operation as effi-

ciently as possible.

Before use, make sure the air intake and outlet grilles are unobstructed.

Keep air hoses as short and free of curves as

possible to avoid constrictions.

Preparing for use

AIR-CONDITIONING WITH INSTALLATION

If required, the Pinguino can also be installed

semi-permanently.

Proceed as follows:

•Drill a hole in an outside wall or through a

window pane. Respect the height and

dimensions of the hole given in figure E-F.

Whenever the hose is not fitted, the hole

can be closed with the flange cap .

Note:

When installing the air conditioning unit semi-

permanently, you should leave a door slightly

open (as little as 1 cm) to guarantee correct

ventilation.

DEHUMIDIFYING

Place the appliance in the room without fit-

ting the hose. The dehumidified air will thus be

released directly into the atmosphere.

Cold air will come out of the front grill and hot

air from the back grill (fig. G), thus guaran-

teeing efficient dehumidifying.

Turning on and selecting the functions

HOW TO USE AS AN AIR CONDITIONER

When the air conditioning unit is off, the func-

tion selector is in the “●●” position. To use the

unit in air conditioning mode, proceed as fol-

lows:

1. Turn the function selector knob clockwise:

•When the large crystal symbol is lined

up with the reference mark on the

appliance, the unit will operate in air con-

ditioning mode at maximum fan speed.

•When the small crystal symbol is lined

up with the reference mark on the

appliance, the unit will operate in air con-

ditioning mode at minimum fan speed

2. Choose the required temperature by tur-

ning the room thermostat dial.

Note

The temperature is not indicated in degrees.

We therefore suggest you turn the room ther-

mostat dial to the maximum cold position.

When the temperature in the room is comfor-

table, turn the thermostat slowly anticlockwi-

se until the thermostat trips and turns the air

conditioning off.

This will programme the appliance to the

exact level of comfort which will then be

automatically maintained by the thermostat,

at the same time guaranteeing considerable

energy savings. Whenever the air conditioner

reaches the required temperature, it conti-

nues to operate in fan only mode.

THIS APPLIANCE USES AN EXCLUSIVE CON-

DENSATE RECYCLING SYSTEM TO ELIMINA-

TE EXCESS MOISTURE.

IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, CONDENSATE IS

ELIMINATED AUTOMATICALLY.

WHEN HUMIDITY IS HIGH, THERE MAY BE

EXCESS CONDENSATE IN THE TANK. INDI-

CATOR LIGHT COMES ON AND YOU

SHOULD EMPTY THE TANK.

MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE TANK BACK COR-

RECTLY OR INDICATOR LIGHT WILL

REMAIN ON.

HOW TO USE AS A FAN

If you want to use the appliance as a fan

only, turn the function selector anti-

clockwise to the symbol.

HOW TO USE AS A DEHUMIDIFIER

When the appliance is operating in air condi-

tioning mode, it automatically reduces excess

moisture in the air, while at the same time lowe-

ring room temperature.

If you want to remove excess moisture without

lowering the temperature, remove the air

exhaust hose and turn the function selector

anticlockwise to the symbol.

Note

In dehumidifying mode, the air coming out of

the air discharge grill is colder than the air in

the room while the air coming out of the hose

housing at the back of the appliance is

hotter.

Mode selection/indicator lights

TURNING THE APPLIANCE OFF

TO TURN THE APPLIANCE OFF COMPLETELY, TURN THE FUNCTION SELECTOR TO THE "O" POSITION

AND UNPLUG FROM THE MAINS.

THERE MAY BE A SLIGHT DELAY BETWEEN TURNING THE SELECTOR AND START-UP OF THE MODE SELEC-

TED.

OPERATING INDICATOR LIGHTS

The lights indicate operation of the unit.

*The light comes on three minutes after the appliance has been turned on (when the com-

pressor starts operating). It goes off when the temperature set by the thermostat has been rea-

ched.

** The light comes on three minutes after the appliance has been turned on (when the com-

pressor starts operating).

In air conditioning mode, the appliance operates continuously. If the temperature is too low,

the frost prevention thermostat trips and turns off operation.

To get the best from your air conditioning unit,

follow these recommendations:

•close the windows and doors in the room to

be air conditioned. The only exception is

when the appliance is installed through a

hole in the wall.

In this case, you are recommended to

leave a slight draught through a door or

window to guarantee correct ventilation.

•Protect the room from direct exposure to

the sun by partially closing curtains and/or

blinds. This makes the appliance more

economical to run;

•Never rest objects of any kind on the air

conditioning unit;

•Never obstruct the air intake or outlet

grilles;

•Make sure there are no heat sources in the

room.

•Never use the appliance in very damp

rooms (laundries for example).

•Never use the appliance outdoors.

Before cleaning or maintenance, always turn

the appliance off and unplug from the mains

socket.

CLEANING THE CABINET

You should clean the appliance with a slightly

damp cloth then dry with a dry cloth. For

safety reasons, never wash the air conditio-

ning unit with water.

Precautions

Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents to clean

the appliance. Never spray insecticide liquids

or similar.

CLEANING THE AIR FILTERS

To keep your air conditioning unit working effi-

ciently, you should:

Clean the dust filter every week of operation

The filter is housed in the intake grille.

To clean the filter, proceed as follows:

1. Remove the intake grille by rotating

outwards (fig. L).

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust accu-

mulations from the filter. If it is very dirty,

immerse in warm water and rinse a number of

times. The water should never be hotter than

40°C.

After washing, leave the filter to dry.

To replace, put the filters back in the intake

grille then attach the intake grille to the

appliance.

START OF SEASON CHECKS

Make sure the power cable and plug are

undamaged and the earth system is efficient.

Follow the installation instructions precisely.

END OF SEASON OPERATIONS

To empty the internal circuit completely of

water, turn the function selector to the PUMP

position until you hear the gurgling of the

pump. Do not remove the tank.

The water in the internal circuit will drain into

the tank or through the continuous drain

hose if connected.

Make sure the other end of the hose leads to

a drain.

When completely drained, disconnect the

continuous drain hose.

Clean the filters and dry thoroughly before

putting back.

2. Remove the dust filter by detaching it from

the grille (figure M).

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (U.K. ONLY)

A) If your appliance comes fitted with a plug, it will incorporate a 13 Amp fuse. If it does not fit your socket, the plug should

be cut off from the mains lead, and on appropriate plug fitted, as below. warning: Very carefully dispose of the cut off

plug after removing the fuse: do not insert in a 13 Amp socket elsewhere in the house as this could cause a shock hazard.

With alternative plugs not incorporating a fuse, the circuit must be protected by a 15 Amp fuse. If the plug is a moulded-

on type, the fuse cover must be re-fitted when changing the fuse using a 13 Amp Asta approved fuse to BS 1362. In the

event of losing the fuse cover, the plug must NOT be used until a replacement fuse cover can be obtained from your nea-

rest electrical dealer. The colour of the correct replacement fuse cover is that as marked on the base of the plug.

B) If your appliance is not fitted with a plug, please follow the instructins provided below:

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with

the following code:

Brown Live

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead may not corre-

spond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals

in your plug, proceed as follows:

The green and yellow wire must be connected to the termi-

nal in the plug marked with the letter E or the earth symbol

or coloured green or green and yellow.

The blue wire must be connected to the terminal marked with

the letter N or coloured black.

The brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked

with the letter L or coloured red.
