1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Introduction

Up-to-date broadcast monitoring and security control rooms require reliable multiple-image display systems that

can be easily configured and controlled to meet the individual user’s needs. Darim’s SM2000 is a versatile

solution that offers high-quality image processing and multiple-source displaying. The compact MultiViewer

system provides users with effective and convenient usage of the monitor workspace to the maximum.

Based on the highly scalable architecture consisting of a choice of various processing cards and their inputs, the

system allows users combining various formats in one system. Multiple video sources are routed to a multiviewer

and displayed on a single display. SM2000 display and layouts can be customized so individual windows can be

sized and positioned anywhere on the screen. The MultiViewer system also provides users with excellent image

quality; smooth zooming up to full screen.

SM2000 is ideal for all applications where video and audio monitoring is performed in mixed-signal

environments. This includes live production and control room for broadcasters as well as central monitoring

locations for video surveillance installations.

2. OPERATION STEPS

This chapter describes the operation of the SM2000 MultiViewer system, its control application and special utility

for creating and managing streams and live sources for streaming and displaying.

2.1 MultiViewer Streams Configurator

The SM2000 MultiViewer system provides users with a special utility (MultiView streams configurator)

allowing easy creation and configuration of all available sources and streams. The SM200 MultiViewer is a

versatile and flexible system that can be quickly and easily modified and expanded to meet your requirements and

needs. The SM2000 MultiViewer system comes as a preconfigured ready-to-use turn-key unit. The MultiViewer

configuration utility allows adding, managing, and deleting various streams and sources. At present SM2000

supports the following streams:

IP (H.264/AVC/MPEG-4 Part 10, MPEG-2, WM9-VC1)

ASI (MPEG-2, H.264/AVC)

DirectX Capture Sources

Launch the MultiViewer streams configuration utility from the SM2000 program menu. The main configuration

dialog is shown in Figure 2.

This dialog can be divided into three fields: MultiView streams and sources list, parameters, and preview pane.

The MultiView streams area presents all currents available at the moment. The parameters field allows specifying

or changing settings for a corresponding stream, while the preview area serves for displaying preview image of

the selected stream.

Press button in the toolbar, the parameters area will be activated for adding a new stream. The Stream name

editing field allows specifying a desired name for the appropriate stream or source. Using the Stream type

dropdown list you can select a required stream. Choose one from available options: Spider (shown by default),

ASI, IP (H.264), IP (RTSP), WME, Capture source, or Other.

In case of Spider selection specify the resource using the Spider dropdown list of the connected VideoSpider

resources and select a camera using the Camera selection list.

If you have selected the ASI stream for addition, choose the device from the Board dropdown list of the installed

Darim’s boards. Using the Program option set the number of a channel for streaming.

Specify IP address of the Darim’s MV401exp encoding station and port for streaming for the selected IP (H.264)

stream type.

Select the IP (RTSP) stream type for streaming data from Darim’s VideoSpider and PVE400 and define the IP

address and channel name.

In case of WME selected option, set the IP address of WME encoder server and port for streaming.

If you have chosen the Capture source option, select one of the available capture sources using the Source

dropdown list.

The selected Other option allows streaming from other sources. The only requirement is the known URL address

that you should type in the corresponding field.

The Field order parameter allows selecting the required order of the fields placement in the output stream.

Choose one from the available options: Low field 1st, Up field 1st, No field (de-interlace), or Auto placement.

You can set desired aspect ratio on output video stream. Select one of the following variants using the Aspect

ratio dropdown list. If you have set the Custom option, then specify the values for this parameter using two

editing fields to the right.

You can choose the video renderer type which will be used for showing stream. Select one of the following

variants using the Renderer type dropdown list. Specify the Max. renderers value. This parameter signifies how

many windows can show this stream simultaneously.

Fill the Preview check box to display the preview image of the given stream.

Press the Add button when you specify all the parameters for the stream. The new stream will be added to the list

of the existing MultiView streams. Later you can modify the parameters of the corresponding stream by

selecting it in the list with the mouse button. The parameters area of the dialog will display its settings. To remove

a stream from the MultiView streams list, select a stream with the mouse and press button in the toolbar or

the Delete button on the keyboard.

2.2 SM2000 Control Panel

The SM2000 MultiViewer system is specially designed to display simultaneously several video panes on a single

monitor for convenient workflow control and management at live production and control room for broadcasters as

well as central monitoring locations for video surveillance installations. The SM2000 MultiViewer system allows

displaying up to 48 video panes at the same time. The main control window of the SM2000 MultiViewer system

provides users with easy-to-use monitoring possibilities (see Figure 3).

The control panel is split into 4 areas. The layout of each area can be easily configured using the following

variants of the MutliViewer layout panel of the control window (see Figure 4). Select the desired area with the

mouse click and the active area will be highlighted with red color. Choose one of the provided layouts (currently

eight variants of display layout) with the mouse. As a result the required area will immediately change its

appearance according to the specified selection. Repeat these steps for every area to suit your needs.

Press the arrow button in the bottom right corner of a pane to assign a stream or source for displaying in this

pane. Select the required stream from the list of the appeared Streams dialog. The Streams list contains various

sources and streams set beforehand for displaying, as well as digital and analog clock. The name of the selected

stream will be shown in the bottom part of the pane in the MultiViewer control panel. The audio /

button allows enabling/disabling audio stream.

The active (highlighted) area of video panes is displayed on the output control monitor. To switch between the

areas, select with the mouse button the required one using the MultiViewer control panel. The Full Screen

button in the MultiViewer layout panel allows displaying all four areas of the video panes simultaneously on the

output control monitor (up to 48 panes in case of 12 panes per each area selection).

The Sound button in the MultiViewer layout panel serves for enabling/disabling the audio bar-graphs for easy

audio control on the output monitor. When this option is set, every pane will have its own audio bar-graph

reflecting the state of a current audio stream. Every video pane may also contain the information about the

channel name for easy identification of various streams on the output monitor. To activate this option for all panes

press the Text button. The audio level slider to the right of the MultiViewer layout panel allows controlling the

volume of all audio streams. To quit the MultiViewer control panel application, press the Exit button in its bottom

right corner.
