1. Safety
1.1 General safety instructions for your safety and
the safety of others
1. Keep theworking area tidy. Cluttered surfaces and benches invite accidents.
2. Do not use themachine in dangerous environments. The machine should not
be used on moist or wet surfaces or in rain. Make sure that thework area is well
lit. When working in dusty atmospheres, make sure that theair is adequately
circulated. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in
thepresence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
3. Avoid electric shocks. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such
as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators when using power tools.
4. Keep children and bystanders away. Keep children and visitors at asafe distance
from electrical machinery/tools and electric cables in theworkplace.
5. Store power tools out of thereach of children. When not in use, power tools
should be stored locked away in asafe place, away from children.
6. Do not force themachine. The correct feed rate makes thework better and safer.
7. Use thecorrect tool for thejob. Do not force atool to perform atask that it was
not designed for.
8. Wear suitable attire. Do not wear any loose-fitting clothing, gloves, necklaces,
bracelets or other jewellery that can get caught in moving parts. Non-slip footwear
is recommended. Wear ahairnet or similar if you have long hair.
9. Always wear safety glasses. Normal glasses are not tough enough to withstand
impacts. Use adust mask or dust filter when working in dusty environments.
10. Connect dust extraction equipment. If themachine is equipped with dust
extraction equipment, ensure that it is connected and used properly. Make sure
to empty thedust bag regularly.
11. Do not abuse themains lead. Do not carry themachine by its mains lead. Do not use
themains lead to pull or unplug thepower tool, pull theplug out instead. Make sure
that themains lead does not come into contact with heat, oil, or sharp edges.
12. Secure theworkpiece firmly. Where possible, use clamps or avice. You can then
operate thetool using two hands. This is much safer than holding theworkpiece in
one hand.
13. Do not overreach. Make sure that you stand steady and balanced all times.
14. Look after you tools. Keep blades sharp and clean for thebest and safest performance.
15. Follow themanuals recommendations regarding lubrication and replacement of
accessories. If it is damaged it should be replaced by aqualified service technician.
Inspect all leads and cables regularly to check for any damage. Make sure that
themachine’s handles and controls are clean, dry and free from oil and grease.
16. Turn thepower off. Pull out theplug and push in theemergency stop button before
servicing or changing any blades, drill bits, cutters or sanding discs.
17. Remove all spanners and repair tools. Make ahabit of checking to make sure that
themachine is free of all spanners and tools before turning thepower on.

18. Avoid accidental starts. Do not walk around with your finger on thetrigger of apower
tool if it is plugged in. Make sure that thepower switch is set to [0] before plugging
in any power tool.
19. Use thecorrect extension leads. If you use extension leads outdoors, only use
those designed for outdoor use. Only use extension leads with adequate wire core
area and roll out thewhole lead.
20. Use common sense and be careful. Think carefully before carrying out every
action, so that it is carried out safely. Never operate machines/power tools when
you are tired or under theinfluence of medicine.
21. Inspect thetool for damage. Before starting thetool, make sure that theguards
and other parts are undamaged and working properly, that moving parts can rotate
freely and are correctly aligned, that no moving parts can get caught and that there
is no fault or defect that could affect theperformance of themachine. A safety guard
or any other part that is damaged should be repaired by atradesman or replaced.
Damaged power leads and switches must always be replaced by atradesman.
Never operate atool if you cannot stop or start thetool comfortably.
22. Use only recommended accessories. The use of non-recommended accessories
can cause accidents and personal injury.
23. Should only be repaired by aqualified technician. This tool conforms to current
safety requirements. Repairs to thetool should only be carried out by atradesman
using original spares; otherwise thetool could cause accidents and personal injury.
24. Use aResidual Current Device on all 230 V power tools. This can help minimise
therisk of anelectric shock if anearth fault or short circuit occurs. The product
must not be modified or used for any other purpose than that for which it has been
designed. Regularly check that all screws and nuts are securely tightened.
1.2 Specic safety regulations for bench sanders
• Place themachine on astable, level surface with plenty of room for manoeuvre.
• Think about how you are going to hold theworkpiece during theentire sanding
operation. Be wary of kickbacks and injuries. The workpiece could catch in
thesanding belt or disc and be ripped from your grasp.
• When using thesanding disc, always hold theworkpiece against theside of
thedisc moving downwards towards thetable. If you sand against theupward
side theworkpiece can easily be ripped from your grasp.
• The distance between thebelt/disc and work rest must never exceed 2 mm.
• To prevent therisk of fire; keep themachine free of sander dust. Sparks produced
when sanding metal can start fires. Prevent this by:
- Disconnecting any dust extractor suction hose that might be attached.
- First blowing off any dust particles on or in themachine.
- Removing any particles of metal before sanding wood again.
• Using thesander in adry place, indoors and out of therain. Make sure that
thework area is well illuminated.
• Position thesander in such away neither theuser nor any observer need stand in
line with thesanding belt or disc.
• Remove everything from theside table except theworkpiece and themitre guide.

• Avoid placing your hands in such away that anaccidental slip might cause afinger
or hand to come into contact with theabrasive surface. Keep your fingers well away
from theopening to thedust extractor.
• Keep your face and as much of your body as possible out of range of possible
kickbacks.
