General safety instructions for cordless powertools
Warning: Readall theinstructions. Failure to adhere to thefollowing instructions may
lead to electric shocks, fires and/or serious injury. Theterm “power tools” in thewarning
text below refers to your handheld mains operated or battery operated tool.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
1) Workarea
a) Keepthework area clean and well illuminated. Cluttered and poorly lit areas
inviteaccidents.
b) Donot use power tools in explosive environments, e.g. near flammable liquids,
gases or dust. Powertools generate sparks that can easily ignite dust orfumes.
c) Keepchildren and other bystanders asafe distance away from thearea where
you intend to use thepower tool. Distractions can cause you to lose your
concentration and control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Thepower tool’s plug must fit correctly into thewall socket. Nevermodify
theplug in any way. Neveruse anadaptor together with earthed power tools.
Unmodifiedplugs and suitable wall sockets minimize therisk of electric shocks.
b) Avoidphysical contact with earthed objects, such as pipes, radiators, ovens or
refrigerators. Thereis anincreased risk of receiving anelectrical shock if your body
is earthed.
c) Donot expose thepower tool to rain or other wet conditions. Ifwater gets inside
apower tool it increases therisk of electric shock.
d) Donot abuse themains lead. Neveruse thelead to carry thetool or pull theplug
from thewall socket. Keepthelead away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving
parts. Damaged or tangled leads increase therisk of electric shock.

5
ENGLISH
e) Whenusing power tools outdoors, use anextension lead that is suitable for
this purpose. Theuse of anextension lead designed for outdoor use decreases
therisk of electric shocks.
f) Iffor some reason you must use apower tool in awet environment, always
connect it to themains via anearth-fault circuit breaker such as anRCD (residual
current device). UsinganRCD significantly reduces thechances of you receiving
anelectric shock.
3) Personal safety
a) Payattention to what you are doing and use common sense when using power
tools. Neveruse power tools if you are tired or under theinfluence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. Onemoment of inattention while using apower tool may
result in serious injury.
b) Wearprotective clothing. Alwayswear safety glasses. Usingprotective clothing
such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, helmets and ear defenders when
needed decreases therisk of injury.
c) Avoidaccidental starts. Makesure that thepower switch is set to OFF before
plugging thetool into awall socket. Nevercarry apower tool with your finger on
thetrigger and never connect thepower tool to awall socket when theswitch is
set to ON, since it may result in injury.
d) Removeall service tools/keys before switching thepower tool on. Aservice tool
left on amoving part of thepower tool may result in injury.
e) Donot overreach. Makesure you stand steady and well balanced at all times.
Thiswill allow you to have more control in unexpected situations.
f) Wearsuitable clothing. Donot wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keephair,
clothes and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothes, jewellery or long
hair could become caught in moving parts.
g) Ifequipment for dust extraction or collecting is available make sure it is connected
and used properly. Usingtechnical aids may decrease dust related hazards.
4) Use and maintenance of powertools
a) Donot force thepower tool. Useapower tool suitable for thework you are about
to perform. Theproper power tool will perform thetask better and safer if used at
thecorrect feedrate.
b) Neveruse thepower tool if thepower switch does not switch thetool on and
off properly. Allpower tools that cannot be controlled by thepower switch are
dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Unplugthelead from thewall socket before making any adjustments, changing
accessories or storing thepower tool. Theseprecautions reduce therisk of
thepower tool starting unexpectedly.

6
ENGLISH
d) Storepower tools that are not being used out of children’s reach. Donot allow
people who are unfamiliar with thetool or its functions to operate it. Powertools
can be dangerous if they fall into thehands of inexperienced users.
e) Maintaining power tools. Checkfor any incorrect settings, parts that catch, broken
parts or anything else which may cause thepower tool to malfunction. Ifsomething
is damaged it must be repaired before use. Manyaccidents are caused by poorly
maintained powertools.
f) Keeptools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp blades
are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
g) Usethepower tool, accessories and similar according to theinstructions and
in anappropriate way suitable for thetype of power tool used. Also, take into
consideration your work environment and thetype of work to bedone.
h) Using thepower tool for apurpose other than that for which it is intended could
result in adangerous situation.
5) Use and maintenance of cordless powertools
a) Makesure that thepower switch is set to OFF before mounting thebattery.
Attaching abattery to apower tool when thepower switch set to ON is inviting
anaccident.
b) Onlycharge thebattery using acharger approved by themanufacturer. Acharger
suitable for one type of battery can constitute afire hazard if used for another type
of battery.
c) Onlyuse rechargeable batteries that are strictly compatible for those particular
machines. Theuse of other types of batteries might cause damage orfire.
d) Whennot in use, thebattery should be stored away from other metal objects such
as paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or any small object that could bridge
thegap between thebattery terminals. Shortcircuiting thebattery terminals can
cause burns orfires.
e) Ifbatteries are abused there is arisk of them leaking acid. Avoidcontact with any
acid. Ifyou accidentally come into contact with theacid, rinse your skin with water.
Iftheacid comes into contact with your eyes, consult adoctor. Battery acid can
cause irritation andburns.

Operation
Use respiratory protection when working with material which produces lots ofdust.
Changing accessories
The SDS-plus tool holder enables accessories to be changed simply and quickly.
TheSDS tool holder (1) allows thedrill bit to slide back and forth, which means that it
wobbles when it is not under load. Thisdoes not affect theaccuracy of thedrill since
thedrill bit centres automatically when it is pressed against theworkpiece.
Accessories with straight cylindrical shanks can be used in thekeyless chuck (7).
The dust cover (2) protects theSDS-plus mechanism; take care not to damage
thedust cover when changing accessories.
Inserting SDS-plus accessories
1. Cleanand grease thebitshank.
2. Pullback thelocking collar (3),
push thebit shank into thetool
holder and turn it slightly until it fits
into theslots.
3. Release thelocking collar and
check that theaccessory is locked
in place (thehammer function
requires theaccessory to be able
to slide back and forth).

Selecting theoperating mode
Set theoperating mode using theselector (4).
Turntheselector upwards for
hammer drilling in concrete,
masonry orstone.
Turntheselector downwards for
normal drilling and screwdriving.
Forward/reverse
• Select forward or reverse rotation using theselector (6). Setting therotation
selector to themiddle position will lock thepower trigger. Thechuck must be
completely motionless before changing directions.
• Forward (drilling and screwdriving): Push theselector on theright side of thegrip
all thewayin.
• Reverse (for unscrewing): Push theselector on theleft side of thegrip all thewayin.
Variable speed power trigger
• The machine is started and stopped by squeezing or releasing thepower trigger (5).
• The drill/driver is equipped with avariable speed control, which makes it extremely
practical for screw removal. Themore thepower trigger is pressed, thegreater
thespeed of thetool.
Drilling tips and advice
• When drilling into slippery materials, like tiles, you should place astrong piece of
tape on thearea in which you wish to drill to prevent thebit from wandering.
• When drilling into metal you should first use acentre punch to make asmall
indentation at thespot where you wish to drill. Thisindentation will help hold thebit
in place and prevents it from wandering when youdrill.
• When drilling into metal you should also use cutting oil to assist in drilling and to
preserve themachine and drillbit.
