Safety
General safety instructions for power tools
Caution: Read all theinstructions.
Failure to adhere to thefollowing instructions may lead to electric shocks, fires and/or
serious injury.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
Theterm “power tool” in thefollowing text refers to your handheld mains operated or
battery operated tool.
1) Work area
a) Keep thework area clean and well illuminated. Cluttered and poorly lit areas
invite accidents.
b) Do not use power tools in explosive environments, e.g. near to flammable liquids,
gases or dust. Power tools generate sparks that can easily ignite dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away from thearea where you are using
thepower tool. Distractions can cause you to lose your concentration and control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Theplug of thepower tool must fit correctly into thewall socket. Never modify
theplug in any way. Never use anadaptor plug together with earthed power
tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce therisk of electric shocks.
b) Avoid physical contact with earthed objects such as pipes, radiators, ovens and
refrigerators. There is anincreased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
c) Do not expose thepower tool to rain or other wet conditions. Water entering
apower tool will increase therisk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse themains lead. Never use thelead for carrying, pulling or
unplugging thepower tool. Keep thelead away from heat, oil, sharp edges
and moving parts. Damaged or tangled leads increase therisk of electric shock.

e) When using power tools outdoors, use anextension lead that is suitable for
this purpose. Theuse of anextension lead designed for outdoor use decreases
therisk of electric shocks.
f) If using thepower tool in awet environment is unavoidable, awall socket
equipped with aportable residual current device (RCD) should be used.
Use of anRCD reduces therisk of electric shock.
3) Personal safety
a) Pay attention to what you are doing and use common sense when using
power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under theinfluence of
drugs, alcohol or medication. One moment of inattention while using apower
tool may result in serious injury.
b) Wear protective clothing. Always wear safety glasses. Using protective
clothing such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, helmets and ear defenders
decreases therisk of injury.
c) Avoid accidental starts. Make sure that thepower switch is set to OFF before
plugging thepower tool into awall socket, fitting thebattery or picking up/
carrying thepower tool. Never carry apower tool with your finger on thetrigger
and never connect thepower tool to awall socket when theswitch is set to ON,
since it may result in injury.
d) Remove all service tools/keys before switching on thepower tool. Aservice
tool left on arotating part of thepower tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables
better control of thepower tool in unexpected situations.
f) Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery.
Keep hair, clothes and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothes,
jewellery or long hair could become caught in moving parts.
g) If equipment for theextraction and collection of dust is available, make sure
it is connected and properly used. Use of dust collection equipment can reduce
dust related hazards.
4) Use and maintenance of thepower tool
a) Do not force thepower tool. Use thecorrect power tool for your application.
Thecorrect power tool will do thejob better and safer if used at therate for which
it was designed.
b) Never use thepower tool if thepower switch does not switch thetool on and off.
Any power tool that cannot be controlled by thepower switch is dangerous and
must be repaired.
c) Disconnect theplug from thepower source and/or thebattery pack from
thepower tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories or
storing thepower tool. These precautions reduce therisk of thepower tool
starting unexpectedly.

d) Store power tools that are not being used out of children’s reach. Do not
allow people who are unfamiliar with thetool or its functions to operate it.
Power tools are dangerous in thehands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment, binding of moving parts,
broken parts or anything else which might affect theoperation of thepower
tool. If any damage is noticed, have thepower tool repaired before using.
Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp
cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use thepower tool and any accessories in accordance with these instructions,
taking into account theworking conditions and thework to be performed.
Use of thepower tool for apurpose other than that for which it is intended could
result in adangerous situation.
h) Themains lead should be checked regularly. Never use theproduct if
themains lead or plug is damaged. If themains lead is damaged it must be
replaced by a cable of identical specifications as theoriginal.
5) Service
a) Repairs and service should only be performed by qualified tradesmen, and
only with original spare parts. This guarantees that thesafety of thepower tool
is maintained.
Specific Safety Requirements for Hammer Drills
• Ear defenders should be worn when using ahammer drill. Exposure to high levels
of noise can cause hearing impairment.
• Use thesupplied side handle when using thehammer drill. Losing control of
thehammer drill could result in personal injury.
• Hold thehammer drill by its insulated gripping surfaces when performing
anoperation where thecutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or themains
lead of thedrill itself. Cutting accessories which contact “live” wires may make
exposed metal parts of thehammer drill “live” and could give theoperator
anelectric shock.

Power tool use and care
• Do not force thepower tool. Use thecorrect power tool for your application.

• Never use thepower tool if thepower switch does not switch thetool on and
off properly. Any power tool that cannot be controlled by thepower switch is
dangerous and must be repaired.
• Unplug thelead from thewall socket, before making any adjustments, changing
accessories or storing thepower tool. These precautions reduce therisk of
thepower tool starting unexpectedly.
• Store idle power tools out of thereach of children and do not allow people who are
unfamiliar with thepower tool or these instructions to operate thetool. Power tools
are dangerous in thehands of untrained users.
• Maintaining power tools. Check for any incorrect settings, parts that catch, broken
parts or anything else which may cause thepower tool to malfunction. If any
damage is noticed, have thepower tool repaired before using. Many accidents are
caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting
edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use thepower tool, accessories and similar in accordance with these instructions
and in anappropriate way suitable for thetype of power tool used, taking
into account theworking conditions and thework to be performed. Use of
thepower tool for apurpose other than that for which it is intended could result in
adangerous situation.

Chuck
1. Thehammer drill has akeyless quick
chuck (1.5–13 mm).
2. Hold therear collar of thechuck and
twist thefront collar anticlockwise until
thejaws are wide enough apart to
allow thedrill bit to enter.
3. Insert adrill bit or other tool.
4. Hold therear collar of thechuck and
twist thefront collar until thejaws lock
onto thetool or bit.
Note: Do not try to tighten thechuck by holding therear collar whilst starting thedrill;
this could result in personal injury. Moreover, thechuck tightens better if thetwo
collars are gripped and tightened by hand.
Side handle
1. Screw theside handle anticlockwise to
undo it.
2. Set theside handle in thedesired position,
set thedepth stop if necessary.
3. Screw theside handle clockwise to
lock both thehandle and depth stop.
Power switch
1. Plug thelead into awall socket after
inserting atool into thechuck and
tightening it.
2. Start thehammer drill by gently pulling
thepower trigger (7), check that
thetool rotates in thecorrect direction.
Release thepower trigger to stop
thedrill.
3. When thechuck is rotating, thepower
trigger can be locked by pressing
thelock button (8) and releasing
thepower trigger.
4. To stop thedrill, pull thepower switch
and then release it.

Changing thedirection of rotation
1. Stop thedrill.
2. Turn theselector (5) to theright or left
to select thedirection of rotation.
Note: Thedrill will not work if theselector
is between settings. Theselector switch
must be fully turned to one of thesettings.
Variable speed control
1. Start thedrill by pulling thepower
trigger (7).
2. Turn thespeed selector (6)
anticlockwise to reduce speed or
clockwise to increase speed.
3. Thespeed selector limits how far
thepower trigger can be pulled in.
Note: Always start drilling at low speed
whenever drilling without apilot hole or
centre-punch mark. As arule, use higher
speeds with thin drill bits and lower speeds
with thicker bits. Cleaning and polishing
usually require high speeds.
Hammer drilling or normal drilling
1. Stop thedrill completely.
2. Set theselector switch (2) to thedesired
drill action. Select hammer drilling for
hard materials (concrete, stone, etc) and
normal drilling for steel, aluminium and
wood, etc.
• When thehammer symbol on theswitch
is visible, thedrill is in hammer drill mode.
• When thedrill bit symbol is visible,
thedrill is in normal drill mode.
Note: Do not move theselector unless thechuck is completely stationary. Make sure
that theselector is set correctly, a “click” can be heard when it locks into place.

Tips!
• After having worked thedrill hard, let themotor run for afew minutes without any
load, to cool it down.
• Use theside handle to help maintain full control when drilling.
• Only use sharp tools.
• Use Titanium coated drill bits for hard metals and Tungsten carbide tipped drill bits
for concrete/tiles. If in doubt read thepacket.
• Fasten theworkpiece down securely. Use clamps or vices when you can, this will leave
you with both hands free to manoeuvre themachine with, which increases precision.
• If you are drilling into thin materials it is important that you place asmall piece of
waste material behind thehole to be drilled, otherwise there is arisk of burring on
theback.
• Line thedrill up at right angles to theworkpiece before starting to drill (look from
several angles). Make sure that you keep thedrill straight, do not force thedrill out
of line when drilling.
• Do not press too hard (so that themachine loses speed) let thetool do thejob!
Reduce pressure before thedrill breaks through thematerial.
• Let thedrill bit continue to spin after drilling through thematerial and withdraw
thedrill to allow themachine to cool down and thedrill bit to be freed of dust and
wood chips.
Things to consider when drilling into wood and plastic
• For wood and other soft materials there are several types of accessories such as
hole saws, flat wood bits, etc. Select themost suitable tool for thejob. Test thedrill
on apiece of waste material first.
• Thetool can overheat if you don’t pull it up often to free it of sawdust.
• Place asmall piece of waste material behind thehole to be drilled before starting to
drill otherwise there is arisk of burring around theedges of thehole on theback.
Things to consider when drilling into metal
• Mark thehole using acentre punch.
• Thetool can overheat if you use thewrong speed. Use cooling liquid suitable for
your material e.g. methylated spirit for aluminium (cast iron and brass are cut dry).
• Use alow gear and low speed for big holes.
• Be extra careful with theclamping of thin or sharp metal objects so that they do
not come loose and cause damage or injury, use avice if possible.

Things to consider when drilling into concrete, tile or brick
• Use Tungsten carbide tipped drill bits.
• Use thehammer drill mode and work carefully, applying constant pressure.
• Thematerial residue comes out of thedrilled hole as powder or dust, wear adust mask.
• Use thehammer drill mode when working on concrete or brick and work carefully,
applying constant pressure. DO NOT use thehammer drill for tile.
Care and maintenance
• Before using thedrill, make sure that all thescrews are tightened. When hammer
drilling themachine will vibrate considerably.
• Make sure thecool air vents on themachine are free and open.
• Clean with adamp cloth and mild washing up liquid when needed. Never use
solvents or strong cleaning agents.
• Store theinstruction manual together with thedrill.
Responsible disposal
This symbol indicates that this product should not be disposed of with
general household waste. This applies throughout theentire EU. In order
to prevent any harm to theenvironment or health hazards caused by
incorrect waste disposal, theproduct must be handed in for recycling
so that thematerial can be disposed of in aresponsible manner. When
recycling your product, take it to your local collection facility or contact
theplace of purchase. They will ensure that theproduct is disposed of in
