tended.

CUT-OFF SAW SAFETY

PRECAUTIONS

Never use carbide-tipped, woodcut-1. ting, or circular machine Saw Blades.

They can cause severe personal

injury from reactive forces, blade con-

tact, or thrown objects.

Only cut asphalt, concrete, stone,2. brick, and plastics with this Cut Off

Saw.

Inspect the Saw Blade frequently,3. and replace immediately if the Blade

is cracked, or warped. Cracked or

warped Saw Blades may shatter or

break and cause serious personal

injury.

Always install the Saw Blade so4. that the arrow on the Blade points

in the direction of the rotation of

the spindle.

Keep hands and ngers away from 5. the cutting area and Saw Blade.

Never attempt to cut more than6. one workpiece at a time.

When cutting a large workpiece,7. make sure its entire length is prop-

erly supported. If necessary, use a

roller stand (not included).

Allow the Saw Blade to spin up to8. full speed before feeding it into a

workpiece. When turning off the Cut

Off Saw, allow the Saw Blade to spin

down and stop on its own. Do not

SKU 66753 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Page 6

press against the Saw Blade to stop

it.

Do not force the Saw Blade into9. the workpiece when cutting. Apply

moderate pressure, allowing the Saw

Blade to cut without being forced.

To avoid accidental injury, always10. wear heavy duty work gloves when

changing the Saw Blade.

The Saw Blade will become hot11. while cutting. Allow the Saw Blade

to completely cool before handling.

Turn off the Cut Off Saw and allow12. the Saw Blade to completely stop

if the Saw Blade is to be backed

out of an uncompleted cut.

Never attempt to remove material13. stuck in the Cut Off Saw while it is

operating.

Always use the water cooling14. system when cutting concrete to

avoid inhalation of dangerous dust

particles.

Make sure the workpiece is free15. from nails, metal rebar, and any

other foreign objects that could

damage the Saw Blade or cause

“kickback”.

Causes and operator prevention16. of “kickback”: Kickback is a sud-

den reaction to a pinched, bound, or

misaligned Saw Blade, causing an

uncontrolled Cut Off Saw to lift up

and out from the workpiece toward

the operator. When the Saw Blade

is pinched or bound tightly by the cut

closing down, the Saw Blade stalls

and the engine reaction drives the

Cut Off Saw rapidly back toward the

operator. If the Saw Blade becomes

twisted or misaligned in the cut, the

teeth at the back edge of the Saw

Blade can raise the Cut Off Saw

(walk up) toward the operator. Kick-

back is a result of tool misuse and/

or incorrect operating procedures or

conditions and can be avoided by

taking proper precautions as given

below:

Maintain control of the Cut Off• Saw at all times. Never allow the

rotating Saw Blade to rest on the

workpiece without holding on to the

Saw with both hands.

When the Saw Blade is binding,• or when interrupting a cut for

any reason, turn off the Cut Off

Saw and hold the Saw motion-

less until the Saw Blade comes

to a complete stop. Never attempt

to remove the Saw Blade from the

workpiece or pull the Saw backward

while the Saw Blade is in motion or

kickback may occur. Investigate and

take corrective actions to eliminate

the cause of Saw Blade binding.

When restarting the Cut Off Saw• on a workpiece, center the Saw

Blade in the pre-cut opening and

check that the Saw Teeth are not

engaged into the workpiece. If the

Saw Blade is binding, the Cut Off

Saw may walk up or kickback as the

Saw is restarted.

Support large panels with roller• stands (not included) to minimize

the risk of Saw Blade pinching

and kickback. Large panels tend

to sag under their own weight. Sup-

ports must be placed under the

panel and near the outer edge of the

panel.

SKU 66753 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Page 7

Do not use a dull or damaged Saw• Blade. Unsharpened or improperly

installed Saw Blades produce a nar-

row cut causing excessive friction,

Saw Blade binding and kickback.

Push the Saw Blade past the• workpiece prior to release.

Make sure to check the Blade• Guard for proper operation. Never

disable the Guard. Do not use the

Cut Off Saw if the Guard assembly

does not operate properly. Before

each use, make sure the Blade

Guard does not touch the Saw

Blade.

Vibration Hazard:

This tool vibrates during use. Re-

peated or long-term exposure to

vibration may cause temporary or

permanent physical injury, particularly

to the hands, arms and shoulders. To

reduce the risk of vibration-related

injury:

Anyone using vibrating tools regu-1. larly or for an extended period should

rst be examined by a doctor and

then have regular medical check-

ups to ensure medical problems are

not being caused or worsened from

use. Pregnant women or people

who have impaired blood circulation

to the hand, past hand injuries, ner-

vous system disorders, diabetes, or

Raynaud’s Disease should not use

this tool. If you feel any symptoms

related to vibration (such as tingling,

numbness, and white or blue ngers),

seek medical advice as soon as pos-

sible.

Do not smoke during use. Nico-2. tine reduces the blood supply to the

hands and ngers, increasing the risk

of vibration-related injury.

Wear suitable gloves to reduce the3. vibration effects on the user.

Use tools with the lowest vibration4. when there is a choice between dif-

ferent processes.

Include vibration-free periods each5. day of work.

Grip tool as lightly as possible (while6. still keeping safe control of it). Let

the tool do the work.

To reduce vibration, maintain the tool7. as explained in this manual. If any

abnormal vibration occurs, stop use

immediately.
