GENERAL SAFETY RULES
WARNING! Read all instructions
Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock,
re, and/or serious injury. The term “equipment” in all of the warnings listed
below refers to your gasoline-operated hydraulic Log Splitter.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Work area safety
Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate the Log Splitter in explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of ammable liquids, gases or dust. This equipment can create
sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while operating the Log Splitter.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
Electrical safety
Do not expose the Log Splitter to rain or wet conditions. Water entering
the Log Splitter will increase the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating
the Log Splitter. Do not use the Log Splitter while you are tired or under the
inuence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while
operating the Log Splitter may result in serious personal injury.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection and a full face
shield. Safety equipment such as dust mask, heavy duty work gloves,
non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the power switch is in the off position before
starting.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the Log Splitter on. A
wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the equipment may result in
personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Never reach
over or across the Log Splitter.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long

Log Splitter use and care
Do not force the Log Splitter. Use the correct equipment for your application.
The correct equipment will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it
was designed.
Do not use the Log Splitter if the levers do not work. Any equipment that
cannot be directed with it’s controls is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the battery from the Log Splitter before making any
adjustments, changing accessories, or storing equipment. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the Log Splitter
accidentally.
Store idle equipment out of the reach of children and do not allow
persons unfamiliar with the Log Splitter or these instructions to operate
the equipment. The Log Splitter is dangerous in the hands of untrained
users.
Maintain the Log Splitter. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the equipment’s
operation. If damaged, have the Log Splitter repaired before use. Many
accidents are caused by poorly maintained equipment.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind.
Service
Have the Log Splitter serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the equipment is
maintained.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES
Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety
information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a
replacement.
Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the Log
Splitter. Have wood to be split nearby and readily available.
Do not leave the Log Splitter unattended when it is running. Turn off before
leaving the area.
This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children.
People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use.
Electromagnetic elds in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause
pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure. Caution is necessary when near
engine’s magneto or recoil starter.

Always operate the Log Splitter on a dry, at, level surface capable of supporting
the combined weight of the Log Splitter and all materials with the wheels blocked.
Do not drive the Log Splitter on roads or highways. This product is not D.O.T.
compliant, and is not considered road legal.
Always make sure the hitch coupler is securely xed to the vehicle before moving
it. If the Coupler is not secured properly, the ball could come loose while the
trailer is in motion, possibly causing property damage, SERIOUS PERSONAL
INJURY, or DEATH.
Never place hands or feet between the log and splitter wedge, or between the log
and the ram during the forward or reverse stroke.
Never split a log that contains any foreign materials (nails, for example).
This machine is designed for outdoor use only. Do not operate the
Log Splitter in a closed area or in a poorly ventilated area. When
running, the Engine of this Generator produces carbon monoxide, a
colorless, odorless, toxic fume that, when inhaled, can cause serious
personal injury or death. Whenever possible, use a carbon monoxide detector
(not included) to detect excessive carbon monoxide fumes in the work area and
in the surrounding area.
Never place your hands or body near a hydraulic uid leak. Never check for
a leak with your hands or other body parts. High-pressure uid can be forced
under the skin resulting in serious injury.
Do not use on logs longer than 25” or with a diameter greater than 12”.
Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other
construction activities, contains chemicals known [to the State of California] to
cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these
chemicals are:
Lead from lead-based paints
Crystalline silica from bricks and cement or other masonry products
Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type
of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated
area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that
are specially designed to lter out microscopic particles. (California Health &
Safety Code § 25249.5, et seq.)
The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual
cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be
understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which
cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.

to the Assembly Diagram near the end of this manual.
Packing the Bearings
Whenever a hub is disassembled (if a hub on a new unit requires assembly
or a hub is disassembled for maintenance), the following procedure MUST be

Allow all pieces to dry completely. Make sure that your hands are thoroughly
clean and the bearing packer (not included) is also thoroughly clean.
Place fresh, clean bearing grease in the packer.
With the grease-lled bearing packer in one hand and the Bearing (52) in the
other, press the bearing into the grease, forcing the grease inside the slots in the
bearing, continue doing this until every slot in the bearing is completely full of
grease.
Do not get any dirt or debris on any part of the assembly. Secure with Bearing
Seal (51)
With each Tire in place, add a Washer (55) and a Spindle Nut (54) onto the ends
of the Axles. Tighten the Spindle Nuts to 20-25 ft. pounds, and turn each tire
several times to seat the bearing. Back off the Spindle Nut one half turn. Insert
a Cotter Pin (53) through both the Axle and the Spindle Nut and bend the end of
the Pin back to hold it in place.
Log Splitter Assembly
Please Note: This item is extremely difcult to assemble without heavy equipment to lift
and secure parts in place on the item. The base and main beam junction of the
product require the alignment of holes with the four bolts and nuts used to secure
the two pieces together during operation of the item. This machine cannot
be assembled alone. If you do not feel entirely condent about your ability to
assemble the Log Splitter correctly, contact a qualied service professional to
assemble the Log Splitter.
Raise the Engine and Oil Tank Assembly about 9 inches onto a secure platform.
Connect the Wheels to the axles using the supplied hardware (parts 51 - 55) as
stated above. (It may be necessary to reset the wheel bearings after the Log
Splitter has been towed.)
