DOOR LATCH & CATCH REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Do not start work without all the necessary components. This Latch & Catch installation requires the following
items:
1. The Installation kit, consisting of:
a) 1 - Installation Instructions (3 pages)
b) 1 - Drawing (1035 LATCH & CATCH)
c) 1 - Door Latch Assembly (LH S3030A) or (RH S3098A) complete with:
d) 1-3/8-16x 1" hex. Bolt Q2301A
e) 5 - 3/8" Flat Steel Washers Q3042A
f) 2 - 3/8" Flat Brass Washers Q
g) 1 - 3/8" Wavy Spring Washers Q
h) 1 - 3/8-16 hex. shipping nut Q2306A
i) 1 - 5/16 x 2 1/2" Spring S3005A
J) 2 - extra 3/8" Flat Steel Washers Q3042A
K) 1 - Door Catch (LH S3029A) or (RH S3097 A)
I) 4- 1/4-28 Flat Head Screws Q2008A
2. Recommended tools such as:
m) 1 - 1/4" wide flat blade screw driver
n) 1 - 3/8" Ratchet Drive
0) 1 - 6" Extension Piece
p) 1 - 9/16" hex. socket
q) 1 - 7/16" hex. socket
r) 1 - 9/16" wrench
s) 1 -7/16" wrench
t) Some Hi-Temperature Grease
Installation Procedure:
1. Turn off electric power to the unit.
2. Remove the access cover on the side, open the control panel and secure out of the way.
3. Remove the micro-switch from its bracket and secure out of the way.
4. Open the door, disengage and discard the latch spring, remove and discard the latch, the 3/8"
hex. bolt and the old steel washers.
5. From the new 3/8-16 bolt remove the hex. shipping nut, apply some grease on both sides of
the latch and between the washers, then fasten it to the latch box and tighten firmly (see fig 1).

Q:\1035 Latch Replacement (2)
1992-12-02 Rev.OJ
Note 1: The latch has to be held in place quite solidly, just loose enough for the spring to pull it back. If
the latch is too loose, remove the bolt and add one more thin steel washer under the head of the
bolt, then retighten very firmly.
6. Hook the new spring to the spring bracket and to the latch bracket. Adjust the spring bracket,
if necessary, by choosing one of the other holes "A" provided for that purpose (see fig.2).
7. From the door, remove and discard the door catch and the 4 - 1/4-28 Flat Head Screws.
-
8. Install the new door catch and firmly affix it with the 4 new screws provided (see fig.2).
Adjustment Procedure: DOOR
9. Close the door and check the space between the door and the oven frame, top, bottom and
sides. There should be 3/8" space all around (see fig.l).
10. Left to right adjustments can be made by loosening either the top and/or bottom hinge
screws, moving the door, then re-tightening the screws again.
11. The height at the hinge side can be adjusted by removing or adding washers as required.
Note 2: If the hinge side is ok and only the latch side needs to be raised or lowered, this too can be done
with the hinges. Raising the latch side can be done by moving the top hinge to the left or moving
the bottom hinge to the right. The opposite can be achieved by doing the reverse.
Adjustment Procedure: LATCH
n- -
12. Close the door and check the space "B" (see fig.1) between the door and the latch. There should be about 1/32"
space between the two. Much less than that can cause the door to hit the latch and more than that reduces the latch
and catch contact surfaces and will result in premature wear.
13. If the space is less than 1/32", pull the door to the left to gain proper clearance.
14. If the space is more than 1/32", and there is a 1/8" clearance "c" at the right ofthe latch, pull the door to the
right. But if the latch is too far to the right, less than 1/8", proceed as outlined
in par.15 below.
15. Open the door, then, using a big solid screw driver or similar object and a heavy hammer, administer one
or two heavy blows along impact line (see fig. 1 & 2) onto the welds to force the latch farther to the left
against the door.
16. Close the door and recheck the clearance between the latch and the door. Repeat the above if
Necessary.

1992-12-02 Rev.01
Adjustment Procedure: MICRO-SWITCH
17. With the door open and the latch all the way down, make a mark at point "D" onto the S/S Front Column as
shown (see fig.2).
18. Make another mark "E" 1/16" above point "D",
19. Reinstall the micro-switch and adjust it so that it will click on and off when the latch is at that point.
Adjustment Procedure: FINAL CHECKS
20. Open and close the door to see if the latch slides smoothly over the catch. Asmall amount of food grade grease
at the sliding surfaces can be very helpful here (see fig.2).
21. Close the door all the way and check if the latch fully engages with the catch (see fig.3).
22. Make another mark at point "F" and measure the distance between it and point "E". It should be about 3/16",
definitely not less than 1/8".
Note 3: This is the distance the door will have to sag, for whatever reason, before the latch reaches point
“E" and the micro-switch will be turned off.
Note 4: If this distance is less than 1/8", try raising the door by any of steps suggested in par.11 and in Note 2
above.
Note 5: If the latch does not hold the catch and door tightly closed, the whole latch box can be pulled
further back (or pushed toward the front) by removing the two fixed screws "G" completely and
loosening the two remaining screws "H". After adjusting the latch box, retighten screws "H", then
drill two new holes nexttothe existing ones and lock in place with the two previously removed
screws "G".
Note 6: If the above adjustment was necessary, steps 17 thru 22 will have to be repeated.
23. With the latch all the way up, open the door and see by how much the latch clears the catch.
A clearance of 1/16"at "K" is quite sufficient (see fig.4).
24. With the latch still all the way up, check the distance "L". This is the remaining over-travel
of the micro-switch plunger and .should not be less than 1/16"
Note 7: This clearance is critical! If the door is slammed shut and there is insufficient over travel, the
plunger will be pushed 'back in so hard, that it will fracture the micro-switch.
25. Turn the electric power back on and verify the smooth operation of the door lock and switch
mechanism. .
