SETTING UP: POWER SUPPLY
Your digital drum will run on either batteries or via a power adaptor. Follow the instructions
below according to the power source you intend on using.
USING AN AC ADAPTER:
Connect the adapter to the DC IN
jack located on the rear panel of
the unit and plug into power outlet.
Do not use adapters other than
what is specified. The technical
specifications for the power adapter
on the Ashton EDP420 is 12V DC.
USING BATTERIES:
1. Open the battery compartment
cover on the underside of the unit.
2. Insert 6 x alkaline “C” sized, R 14,
SUM-2 or equivalent batteries. Use
the polarity instructions (negative
and positive guide).
3. Close the battery compartment.

SETTING UP: USING HEADPHONES
Alternative to using the internal speakers or an
amplifier. You may choose to drum using headphones.
To do this, simply connect a pair of headphones to the
¼” stereo output jack located on the back panel of
the unit (see back panel description). The headphone
output may also be used to link the device to other
external devices.
Note: the internal speakers on the device will cease to function once the device senses an
input into the headphone output.

DESCRIPTION: TOP PANEL
A. POWER: This switch turns the power ON/OFF.
B. TEMPO -/+: Speeds up or decreases the tempo speed.
C. MASTER VOLUME -/+: Increases or decreases the volume of the device.
D. ACC. VOLUME -/+: Increases or decreases the volume of an accompaniment.
E. REC (LED Indicator): Press once to start or stop a recording (lights when recording).
F. CLICK (LED Indicator): Press once to start or stop the metronome (lights when on).
G. LED Monitor: 3 - digit main display. This will show all your current menu settings.
H. HAND PERC (LED Indicator): Press once to engage hand percussion functions (lights
when engaged).
I. DRUM OFF (LED Indicator): Press once to engage the drum off function. (lights when
engaged).
J. KIT: This button enters you into the ‘KIT’ menu - browse drum kits via the turning pad (T).
K. PAD ASSIGN: This button enters you into the ‘VOICE’ or ‘VOLUME’ menu - browse
voices/volumes via the turning pad (T). You can individually assign voices/volumes to
various pads.

DESCRIPTION: TOP PANEL
L. SONG: This button enters you into the ‘SONG’ menu - browse songs via the turning pad (T).
M. START/STOP: Press once to start or stop a song from playing.
N. VOLUME: This button can be used to change the volume of a pad.
O. SELECT -/+: These buttons act as an alternative to the tracking pad (T) you can
manually select the voice/kit/song, etc that you want.
P. SAVE: Press once to save the current kit setting to a user (memory) kit.
Q. PAN: Press once to change the pan (left and right balance) of the pad.
R. PLAY/STOP: Press once to start or stop a recording replay.
S. REVERB: Press once to engage and subsequently increase the level of reverb.
T. TRACKING PAD: This is used to browse the index of kits/voices/songs, etc.
U. DEMO: Press once to start or stop the demo from playing.
V. GAIN: Press once to change the gain (intensity) of the pad.
DESCRIPTION: REAR PANEL
A. HEADPHONE OUTPUT: For connection of headphone (¼” stereo jack).
B. KICK: Input for kick pedal.
C. HI-HAT: Input for hi-hat pedal.
D. USB: Input for USB cable to link to external devices.
E. POWER ADAPTOR INPUT: Input for power adapter.

OPERATION:
The following pages entail a detailed guide on how to use all functions of your Ashton EDP420,
please refer to the rear/top panel descriptions on the previous pages to locate the buttons
that each description is referring to.
SELECT A DRUM KIT:
Kit menu is always set to the
default menu 001 after the power
is switched on.
Press (KIT) button to enter the kit
menu. The 3 - digit LED screen will
show the current kit number with
the corresponding menu indicator
lit up. The button (SELECT +/-) or
(TRACKING PAD) can be used to
select any kit (1 - 30/loop) as the
current kit.
SET A PAD VOICE:
Press the (PAD ASSIGN) button once
to enter the PAD ASSIGN menu. The
default voice pad is the ‘crash pad’.
To assign a voice to a pad, select a pad
by either pressing the (PAD) button to
search through all 7 pads or by hitting
the pad you wish to assign a voice to. To
choose a voice from the menu use the
(SELECT +/-) buttons or (TRACKING
PAD) to search the index of voices and
assign a voice to the current pad.

once to enter the PAD ASSIGN
(VOLUME) menu. The corre-
sponding menu indicator should
light up.
To assign a volume to a pad, select
a pad by either pressing the (PAD)
button to search through all 7
pads or by hitting the pad you wish
to assign a voice to. To adjust the
volume, use the (SELECT +/-)
buttons or (TRACKING PAD)..
SET A PAD PAN:
Press the (PAN) button once to enter
the PAD ASSIGN (PAN) menu. The
corresponding menu indicator should
light up.
To adjust the pan of a pad, select a pad
by either pressing the (PAD) button to
search through all 7 pads or by hitting
the pad you wish to assign a voice to.
To adjust pad, use the (SELECT +/-)
buttons or (TRACKING PAD).

OPERATION:
SET A PAD GAIN:
Press the (GAIN) button once
to enter the PAD ASSIGN (GAIN)
menu. The corresponding menu
indicator should light up.
To adjust gain on a pad, select a
pad by either pressing the (PAD)
button to search through all 7
pads or by hitting the pad you wish
to assign a voice to. To adjust the
gain, use the (SELECT +/-)
buttons or (TRACKING PAD)..
SAVE KIT:
Press the (SAVE) button to
enter the save kit menu. A user
kit can be saved between 21
- 30 in the drum kit menu. You
will need to select a number
you wish to save the current
kit as, use the (SELECT +/-)
buttons or (TRACKING PAD)
to do this.
To finalise saving the kit to
the current selected number,
press the (SAVE) button again.
The EDP420 should quit to
the kit menu and be set to the current kit if you have successfully saved the kit. Please note
that an unsaved user kit will be lost if you change the kit.
Note: If saving is failed due to an error an “ERR” will appear on the 3 - digit LED screen.
