1. Introduction
The PT Series portable data collectors (PDC) are economical and provide
superior specifications: a 32-bit CPU that provides exceptional processing
speed, a 1MB RAM for managing large databases ( 2MB for PT-12 / 4MB for
PT-18), and 1MB ROM of flash memory for application programs (2M for
PT-18). A high-performance long range CCD scanner lets you read barcodes
from distances up to 13 inches (33cm).
The PT Series offer powerful hand-held data capture tools based on bar code
scanning technology. These PDCs allow you to collect bar code data from
remote locations and store the data until you upload it to a computer system for
analysis. The Argox PT Series PDCs are ideal for data management and can
increase accuracy anywhere in the supply chain. Applications include
inventory control at warehouses, supermarkets, restaurants, and hospitals.
This Quick Reference Guide describes three models, the PT-10, PT-12 and the
PT-18. The PT-10 is powered using two AA alkaline batteries. The
PT-12/PT-18 is powered with rechargeable batteries, and comes with a
charging cradle and rechargeable battery pack.
Additionally, the PT-18 is upgraded model base on PT-12. Except larger
memory, the PT-18 is with IR interface to allow wireless communication.

2. PT Series Accessories
When you first unpack your PT-Series PDC, please check the contents of the
package and compare it to that model’s content listed below. The PT-10, PT-12
and PT-18 models come with different accessories.

4. Charging Batteries
The PT Series portable data collectors are equipped with a battery box for
standard alkaline cells. Never insert alkaline cells into a PT-Series PDC for
charging through the cradle. Only a rechargeable battery pack can be charged
through the PDC or the spare slot. Before using your PT-12/PT-18 for the first
time, charge the NI-MH battery pack for 12 hours through the PDC (PT-12 only)
or the CRD-10/CRD-18 cradle.
4.1Charging through the PDC
Warning: Make sure you have a Ni-MH rechargeable battery pack installed in the
PT-12 before charging. Charging alkaline cells can cause personal injury and severe damage
to the PT-12 cradle and data collector units. (PT-18 can’t charge through the PDC)

4.2 Charging via the Spare Slot
CAUTION:
♦The built-in backup battery is for memory back-up. Do not remove the main battery from
PT-10/12/18 over 10 minutes. Otherwise data stored inside RAM memory will be lost.
