The Marvel drain pump is designed to remove drain water

from ice machines installed in areas without direct drain-

age access. The sealed reservoir pump collects the melted

ice water and pumps it to a maximum lift of eight (8) feet

through 3⁄8" I.D. vinyl tubing to a drain.

This pump has been evaluated for use with water only.

Despite the ease of installation reasonable care and safe

methods should be practiced. Do NOT work with energized

electrical equipment in a wet area. Read and follow the

installation instructions listed in this manual.

Materials supplied: (See Figure 1).

(1) 20 foot x 3⁄8I.D. discharge tubing

(1) 18 inch x 3⁄8I.D. vent tube

(2) "P" clamps

This drain pump is designed to be installed in Marvel ice

machines only.

Risk of electrical shock: Unplug product from

electrical outlet before installing drain pump or

whenever inspecting or servicing product. This

pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and

a grounding-type attachment plug. To reduce the

risk of electric shock be certain it is connected to a

properly grounded receptacle.

For future reference record

the drain pump serial number

(from the label on the end of the

drain pump) and also the model

number and serial number of the

ice machine on page 11 of these

instructions. The ice machine

model and serial numbers are

on the serial plate inside the ice

machine on the left wall.

DRAIN PUMP INSTALLATION

Converting a gravity drain model:

1. Remove the ice machine from the installation

and unplug the power cord from the electrical

outlet.

2. Remove the front panel and the toe grille

from the ice machine by removing the 4 phil-

lips head screws. (See Figure 2 and 2a).

3. Remove the support bar by removing the 2

phillips head screws as shown in Figure 3.

If your ice maker has been making ice, you need to re-

move all ice and drain the reservoir in the ice maker before

installing the drain pump. Refer to the ice maker owners

manual for information on how to do this.

5⁄16" Hex head nut driver

3⁄8" Hex head nut driver or socket and ratchet

A cordless drill driver with the above bits is recommended if

available.

4. Remove the power cord connector from the main

electronic board. Depress the latch on the inside of the

connector and pull down to disengage the connector.

See Figure 4. Place the end of the power cord with the

connector toward the back of the ice machine.

5. Take the 18" wire harness from the drain pump kit and

connect it to the main board where the power cord con-

nector was removed. Remove the hex nut on the front

carriage bolt with a 3⁄8" open end wrench (see Figure 5)

and attach the ground wire under the hex nut. Tighten

the hex nut. Slide the plug end of the 18" harness

through the unit so it can be accessed from the back of

the ice machine.

6. Remove the hex head screws from around the perim-

eter of the rear access cover with the 5⁄16" nut driver

and remove the access cover from the ice machine.

(See Figure 6).

7. Loosen the hose clamp at the bottom of the drain tee

and remove the discharge tubing from the drain tee.

(See Figure 6a).

10. Connect power cord wire connector to the drain pump

wire connector (see Figure 7a), and attach the drain

pump ground wire to the back ange of the cabinet

base where shown in Figure 7. Plug the male plug from

the 18" wire harness into the outlet on the side of the

drain pump.

8. Remove the leveling leg in the back left corner. See

Figure 7. Insert the drain pump into the rear of the cabi-

net so the tubing connections are positioned as shown.

9. Insert and position the foam shipping block above the

drain pump behind the tubing connections so it rests

between the top of the drain pump and the bottom of

the cabinet.

!CAUTION

When replacing tube clamps, do not overtighten which

could damage the tubing. Tighten screws until "snug", then

retighten several minutes later after the material relaxes, to

assure a water tight connection.

12. Re-install the leveling leg to its original position.

11. With the hose clamps from the drain pump kit connect

the 18" vent tube, the 20' discharge tubing, and the

drain tee to the drain pump as shown in Figures 7 and

7a.

13. Install the rear access cover with the vent tube coming

out the upper left bushing, the 20' discharge tube com-

ing out the upper right bushing, and the service power

cord out the lower bushing. (See Figure 8). Fasten the

vent tube to the rear of the ice machine with the screws

and "P" clamps provided in the drain pump kit. Fasten

the access cover to the back of the ice machine with

the screws removed in step 6.

14. Run the 20' drain tubing to a suitable drain. The maxi-

mum lift of the drain pump is 8 feet (2.4 meters).

When nished with the drain pump installation the ice ma-

chine can be returned to service. Refer to your ice machine

owners guide for turning the ice machine "ON". Be sure the

water to the ice machine is turned on.

DRAIN PUMP INSTALLATION

1. Remove the ice machine from the installation and un-

plug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

2. Remove the 2 screws from the vent tube clamps and

all of the screws around the perimeter of the access

cover with the 5⁄16" nutdriver. remove the access cover

from the ice machine. (See Figure 9).

3. Remove the 3 hose clamps from the drain pump and

remove the 3 tubes from the drain pump. See Figure

10.

4. Remove the leveling leg in the left back corner. See

Figure 10.

NOTE

Inspect the following parts for damage, 18" (45.7 cm)

vent tube, 20 feet (6.1 meters) discharge tube, and hose

clamps. Replacement parts, if required, are provided in the

drain pump kit.

5. Remove the front and rear drain pump brackets. See

Figures 11, 11a and 12.

The vent tube must be attached and secured or water

damage may occur. Make sure there are no kinks in the

tube. The drain pump will not operate correctly with a

partially blocked vent tube.

NOTE

6. Unfasten the drain pump ground wire connection, see

Figure 10, and remove the drain pump from the ice

machine.

7. Disconnect the electrical plug connection from the side

of the drain pump, see Figure 13.

8. Disconnect the cabinet power cord from the drain

pump. (See Figure 13).

9. Reverse this procedure to assemble the new drain

pump into the cabinet and re-install the leveling leg to

its original position.

When replacing tube clamps, do not overtighten which

assure a water tight connection.

!CAUTION

Maintenance

The following items require review on a regular basis.

• Check that the ice bin drain inside the cabinet is open

and free of foreign material which would block water

ow to the drain pump, see Figure 14.

• Check that the inlet tubing from the ice machine drain

valve to the drain pump is open and free of foreign

material. Inspect the screen at the top of the inlet tube

to ensure there is nothing blocking the water ow to the

pump, see Figure 15.

• Check that the vent line is open, free of kinks and sharp

bends so that the air can ow freely from the pump

reservoir. See Figure 9 on page 8.

• Check that the discharge tubing is free from foreign

material (algae, etc.) and kinks and bends. Pour water

in the ice bin to conrm that the check valve is opera-

tional by observing that the water ow is evident in one

direction only, out of the pump. Remove and clean as

required.
